Seems to be the norm for me to only post here once a week at the moment, but then there's not a great deal going on outside the norm.
The girls are doing much better now they are on the right medication. All signs of white stringy poos have gone, although Kate still has brown long poos, so they are both still on a medication regime. They've had three doses so far...maybe one more to come, at least for Kate. Pippa will be going into the spawn tank with Jason when she's ready.
Have placed Diana (aka Gidget) into the spawn tank with Ghost. Lots of flaring going on but not much nest building after two days, so I've cheated a little. I read somewhere that they don't mind using another males bubbles, so I transplanted a nest Jason had built in his barrack bay, into Ghosts spawn tank, and then placed the half cup over the top. We'll see if this encourages him...
Like I said, not a lot else going on.
I've started an experiment with a planted tank. I'm trying to follow the suggestions of Diana Walstad (not who the female fish was named after), of The Planted Aquarium fame. I've placed the soil and capped with white gravel. It is now wet (not soupy) and sitting. Each day I give the soil a poking with a very special tool very similar to this.
For what it's worth the tank currently looks like this:
I've chosen some plants already which should arrive in the next week or so. I'm yet to settle on what pieces of hardscape (rocks, driftwood, etc) I want to add, but as the soil is supposed to stay moist for a few weeks, and I want to plant my carpet plants prior to filling, (to give them a chance to root properly, then I've got plenty of time to make my mind up.
